Linux Fedora Core 4 and VNC

vnc logo  Virtual Nework Computing
Virtual Network Computing (VNC) is a desktop sharing system which uses the rfb (Remote FrameBuffer) protocol to remotely control another computer. It transmits the keyboard presses and mouse clicks from one computer to another relaying the screen updates back in the other direction, over a network.

This article was written for newbie's like me who need help with VNC on Linux FC4 computers. I've completed a substantial amount of research and found FC4 does it a bit different. Follow these instructions and it will work for you.

After installing Fedora Core 4 on my test box I wanted to be able to call a VNC window just like I do on my XP and 2000 computers. Normally from my XP workstation, to my servers, I can open a VNC session just by clicking on the VNC icon and entering the IP address of the server I want to VNC to. Now of course you have to have VNC service running on the servers.

All is well or it seemed, until I wanted to do this to my Linux machine. I kept getting an access denied response and the VNC window would close. After much reading and studying, I found installing and running VNC on a LINUX box is not as straight forward as you would think. I am a newbie Linux 'er so for those of you new to Fedora Core 4 I hope this helps.
